Why use it?

The harvesting of soy is a major contributor to deforestation.

Tropical and rainforests are under tremendous pressure. Soybean plantation is one of the major direct and indirect causes of deforestation in South America. Soy is often grown on land that has previously been used for cattle farming.

Currently, the largest soy producing countries are the USA, Brazil, and Argentina, comprising 80% of the global soy production of 270 million tons annually. Soy production is growing i.e. because we eat more meat. The reason soybean production is out of control is the world's high consumption of meat. The protein-rich soybean is an important ingredient in animal feed and approximately 70% of the world's soy production goes to animal feed. So, more and more soy is being produced in the world because the demand for meat is increasing. Soybean production has more than doubled in the last 55 years, from 27 million to 366.7 million tons in 2016 (Global Forrest Atlas).

NOTE - this filter contains the ingredients we have identified as soy. We cannot guarantee that the list is complete, but it is a step on the road to an easier life without direct and indirect soy. Do you know of any names for soy that are not included in this filter, we would love to hear from you.
